eSports Tourism Chapter 2: The United Kingdom’s 1st! For the first time in Dota history, Great Britain was welcoming players, talent and fans for an entire weekend of Dota 2 action. The eSports event took place from May 25th to 27th at the Arena in Birmingham, King Edwards Rd. This first Dota 2 Major in the UK featured some pretty awesome matches. The crowd loved it – 10,000 people in the Arena and approx 3.3 million viewer worldwide. $1 million Prize Pool. BBC3 did broadcast the matches live. At the end, Team Virtus Pro did succeed over OpTic Gaming. For Virtus Pro this was their 3rd victory in a row = three-peat! The team did win $500,000 and in addition, tournament MVP Vladimir Minenko was given a brand new Mercedes Benz.

eSports fanatics love watching Dota 2 of course. But watching it live together with 10,000 other like-minded people next to each other is something very different. It’s probably like following Barca beating Real alone via Facebook stream or live in Camp Nou. Watching Dota 2 live is an experience every fan out there should make at least once. Your favorite team playing right in front of you on the big stage and winning a fight suddenly means so much more when you hear thousands of fans cheering with you – this is what makes eSports Tourism truly special.
