Rovinj Croatia. Photo by Chili.Rovinj Croatia | The coastal town of Rovinj in Northern Croatia is been a popular tourist destination for quite a while. Now there is more in the making. Hitman vs Bodyguard tourism will start soon after the second movie comes into cinemas worldwide. Let’s hope this does not become a curse for Rovinj as it did for Dubrovnik. In Dubrovnik, Game of Thrones tourism got out of control.
We visited Rovinj in mid April 2019 – just two weeks before the tourist season starts. Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek were busy chasing each other thru the narrow alleys of Rovinj’s Old Town. The Istrian pearl will double for an Italian town in the movie ‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’.

However, apart from all the Hollywood hype, Rovinj got more to offer.
Things we did in Rovinj Croatia
(1) Conquered the Basilica of St. Euphemia. That’s the baroque-style church dominating Rovinj. The relics of Saint Euphemia are preserved in a sarcophagus inside the church. Find historical background information about Euphemia at Wikipedia. There is an option to climb the Bell Tower of the Basilica of St. Euphemia. It’ll take you 192 creaky steps to the top.

(3) Strolled along Rovinj’s coastline north and south of the Old Town. It gave you plenty of opportunities to snap cool photos.
(4) Visited the Farmer’s Market at the fully pedestrian Carrera Street.
(5) In mid April, the weather didn’t really allow it. But in summer we highly recommend to bring your swimsuits and can take advantage of several tiny beaches around the Rovinj peninsular.

Rovinj is good for a day trip. Therefore we did not stay over night. It was more convenient for us to take a 1 hour car ride from Piran in Slovenia to Rovinj in Croatia. In case you plan to stay a little longer, the (6)Lim Fjord might appear on your radar of things to do in Rovinj. The fjord can be reached by car or by boat. Guided boat tours can be booked at Rovinj port. The Lim bay and valley is a peculiar geographic feature found on the western coast of Istria. With some luck you will spot dolphins. Combine your boat tour with a meal at a restaurant right at the fjord and you will literally see where your dish was caught.
