Tourism in Albania | Some things you can’t simply force by making up fake facts. Albania was recently mentioned as top destination by various high ranking media sources: New York Times, Huffington Post, Lonely Planet. But the truth is: things do not really go as planned in the Albanian tourist sector. The good news: Albania has now been free of military conflicts for 10 years. But the infrastructure is still underdeveloped, which automatically means: low prices for tourists. If you like the alpine mountains or untouched beaches without overpriced accommodation and rip-off supply stores, Albania might be exactly your thing. Because this is what the country offers: a wild and peculiar atmosphere of the countryside and unspoiled beaches. Other than that there are also a few sites reminding tourists of ancient ties to the Roman Empire. Examples: the Venetian style Clock Tower in Tirana and the amphi theatre in Bukint.

When planning a vacation in Albania, do some research about Theth in Northern Albania, Valbonë Valley, Lake Shkodër, Lake Koman. Wildlife fans: check out National Parks for golden eagles, lynx, brown bears, wolfs and wild boar. If you can make it to the extreme south of Albania, visit the naturally occurring phenomenon of the Blue Eye Spring near Sarande. At the Blue Eye clear blue water of an underneath river bubbles forth from a very deep pool. Divers have descended to 50 meters, but it is still unclear what the actual depth of the karst hole is. The area around Blue Eye is a nature reserve, characterized by oak and sycamore trees. In summer 2004, the water source temporarily dried up.
